Mayors brother buys city parcel that some hoped would be a park.
The lot was owned by Seattle City Light, which for decades used the property to house a substation. By 2004, City Light had
cleared the land of electrical equipment and decided to sell it as surplus property.
... one of the neighbors who wanted the land as a park, said she was disturbed to learn the highest bidder was the
mayors brother. She criticized the city for not notifying neighbors earlier of its intentions to sell the property. She maintains earlier notice
would have given neighbors time to secure the county money and pre-empt a bid process.
"I think it was intentional that they were trying to slip this under the radar," she said.
